Its like a bad cough that won’t go away, its that one lone sock you keep throwing to the back of the closet yet it keeps surfacing. Its like stepping on a piece of toilet paper only to realize its been trailing you the last 3 hours. You know that thing, that sticky, terribly adhesive like thing we call sin. Better yet our vice…Thats the one sin you love to hate and hate to love. You may put it away for some time, but like keys in your pocket you find yourself jingling it sometimes without knowing it.

Some say, well God thats just me, thats my vice, thats my struggle.

I heard the words of a great man who reminded me of the definition of struggle: “to make forceful or violent efforts to get free of restraint or constriction.”

Do we really struggle with our vice? Do we make forceful and violent attempts to break free from sin? Do we plead to God for His divine power and help. Do we set up accountability partners to walk with us? Do we revisit our standards of what we do, what we don’t do where we should go and where we should not go, all the more to defeat that vice? Do we desire freedom from constriction?

Or do we secretly want to wrap ourselves in it for comfort like a warm blanket, as if its all we know or all we can be?

” For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want” Romans 7:19

” For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man, but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members.  Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?” Romans 7:22-24

The Good News follows in the following verse, “Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!..” He is the answer

Lord helps us to choose you daily, press and struggle with you at the helm, knowing that greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world. Help us to stop making excuses and choose to live for you. Empower us to stop jingling those keys hidden deep in our pockets.

A vice is an inclination towards sin, but you are the answer. Image
